A Classic Rock Ambleside Park Weekend – ‘RecAP’ 2019

Rock Ambleside Park 2019 (RAP) came back to rock Vancouver once again for its 3rd consecutive year. The 3-day classic rock music festival took place at West Vancouver’s scenic Ambleside Park from August 16-18, 2019. The event featured some of the greatest Canadian and international rock bands featuring Tom Cochrane & Red Rider, Streetheart, Homeymoon Suite, Blue Oyster Cult, SAGA, David Wilcox, Sass Jordan, Pat Travers, Quiet Riot, Headpins and The Romantics.

The ‘Beautiful’ Venue

At Ambleside Park, with mountains on one side and beach on the other, there couldn’t be a better venue to host this mega music festival. Rock Ambleside Park has hosted iconic Canadian classic rock acts such as Randy Bachman, Nazareth, April Wine, Platinum Blonde, Trooper, Loverboy and many more on the same festival grounds. In previous years the park has also hosted concerts by Kenny Chesney, Ed Sheeran, Tegan & Sara and Lilith Fair.

With gorgeous views from all around the festival ground, a combination of great music, games, merchandise, VIP lounges, ample security, food and drink vendors provided a smooth and fun experience to the festival-goers. The in-out privileges offered to all patrons to explore the beautiful Ambleside area proved to be an icing on the cake!

DAY 1 – Rock Ambleside Park 2019

On Friday, even with rain lurking around, huge lineups were seen hours before the gates opened. The crowd waited with their lawn chairs to get in early and secure the best views in the house. The weather cleared up soon after and some incredible music took over.

Streetheart kicked off proceedings to RAP 2019 with a high-octane performance. Following the motto of life, legacy and music, the revamped Streetheart with new lead singer Paul McNair certainly lived up to the legacy. Then came the Vancouver locals, Headpins. Kat Lawrence along with band members brought in power-vocals to the party and got the crowd head-banging to some authentic Canadian rock music. The headliner of Day 1, Honeymoon Suite followed suite. Original member Johnnie Dee and the band put together a solid rock and roll performance and got the crowd singing along to the tunes of hit New Girl Now and more!

Day 2 – Rock Ambleside Park 2019

Super Saturday at RAP 2019 was full of excitement and buzz. In anticipation of some great rock bands putting on a show, the park was lit up and packed to potential. Pat Travers started off with some awesome guitar action followed by Sass Jordan who grabbed a lot of attention being the only female lead band at RAP 2019. Also known as Canada’s queen of rock she gathered a lot of support from the audience and belted out some of her best songs such as Tell Somebody and So Hard.

Next up, SAGA went On The Loose and so did the crowd. The highlight of the day came when Tom Cochrane with Red Rider hit up the stage. The eight-time Juno award winner and member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame performed some iconic numbers including Life Is A Highway which attracted massive audience.

Day 3 – Rock Ambleside Park 2019

Day 3 started with The Romantics. Originally formed in Detroit, Michigan back in 1977 this band with almost all original members pleased the crowd with great stage presence. David Wilcox played soon after The Romantics. He engaged the crowd with his antics and gigs and let the crowd sing along with his best numbers such as Bad Apple and Layin’ Pipe. Wilcox showed his appreciation for the venue by saying that he has performed in many parts of Canada but never in a “beautiful setting like this (Ambleside Park)”

Heavy metal band, Quiet Riot blew it off the park with the new lead singer James Durbin. The American Idol fame singer screamed his lungs out and gave a power-packed performance along with the talented group of musicians. Heavy metal, Blue Oyster Cult was the last act of the day and the festival. They closed the festival with some of their hits including Godzilla and The Reaper.
